The Decatur Civic Center (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates this website. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit decaturciviccenter.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
Information you give us
Most of this site can be browsed without giving us any personal information at all. You share information only when you choose to — for example, when you email us, call us, or send a question through the site. In those cases we receive what you send us, which typically means your name, your email address or phone number, and the content of your message. We use that information to respond to you.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our web server records basic technical information each time a page is requested — the page you asked for, the date and time, your browser type and version, and your IP address. This is standard server logging, and it helps us keep the site running and secure.
If you consent to analytics (see below), we also use Google Analytics to understand which pages are popular and how visitors move through the site. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you view, how long you spend on them, and roughly where in the world you are connecting from. We use this in aggregate to improve the site, not to identify individual visitors.
Cookies and your consent
When you first visit, we show a banner asking whether you accept analytics cookies. Analytics stay switched off until you accept. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and the site works exactly the same — the only thing we store is a small note in your browser recording your choice, so we do not have to ask again on every page.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for decaturciviccenter.org, which makes the banner appear again. Your browser settings also let you block or delete cookies generally.
Embedded content from other services
Some pages include content hosted elsewhere, such as videos and calendars. Video embeds are set up so that nothing loads from the video provider until you click play, and we use the provider’s privacy-enhanced mode. Once you interact with embedded content, that provider may set its own cookies and collect information under its own privacy policy, which we do not control.
Tickets and third-party sites
Ticket sales for events at the Civic Center are generally handled by the event promoter or an outside box office. When you follow a “Buy Tickets” link you leave our site, and any information you enter — including payment details — is collected by that company under its own privacy policy, not ours. We never receive or store your payment card information.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not trade or rent it to anyone for marketing purposes.
We share information only with the service providers that help us operate the site — our web host, our email delivery provider, and our analytics provider — and only to the extent they need it to provide that service. We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, or to protect the safety and rights of our visitors, staff, or the public. As a public facility, we may additionally be subject to disclosure obligations under Illinois public records law.
How long we keep information
Correspondence you send us is kept as long as needed to answer your question and for our ordinary records. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings.
Children’s privacy
This site is intended for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including serving this site over an encrypted connection. No website can promise perfect security, but we work to keep your information safe.
